Butterfly

We did a little shopping/browsing this weekend.
I came home with this giant, sparkly butterfly...
For $5.99 I know it will be of some use at dance!

I currently subscribe to 181 blogs on my Google Reader...
I was so behind after my personal March-Madness that I
FINALLY just got my unread items under 1000+

Yay!

Work of Art

Blood Orange Yogurt Cake

Over a month ago I had my bestie and her family over for brunch.
We had baked cheesy eggs, english muffins with lots of spreads, fresh fruit,
turkey bacon and blood orange yogurt cake.

I followed this recipe from Ina Garten and substituted lemon for blood orange (zest/juice) and used blood orange greek yogurt too.  It was super moist and really yummy.

I also used a little zest in the glaze... it's the best part

Pretty Pegs

I keep seeing posts around the web about Pretty Pegs... fancy 'shoes' for Ikea furniture.

What a great idea!

Vanilla Bean Scones

There are a million recipes on the web for knock-off Starbucks Mini Vanilla Bean Scones.
I did no research, I just kind of closed my eyes and pointed to one.

Eric made an awesome batch of vanilla bean scones following this recipe from It's Baked In.
They were as good as the real deal!

Instead of a whole vanilla bean, we used this vanilla bean paste

DIY Monoprint Fabric

Awesome DIY that I am dying to try spotted on Design Mom.

Pan Am

I love the show Pan Am, and last weekend Eric and I hit The Mad Lion to hunt for
vintage finds and I scored this bag for one whole dollar!

It needs cleaned up a little bit, but I love it already

Bathroom Makeover

When we moved in to our house in 2009 our bathroom had brown and pink plastic wall tile, ugly fixtures, rosebud wall paper and pink lace curtains.  Yikes.

At the time, we just wanted to get rid of the ugly and deal with it later.
Eric and his friends spent a week tiling the entire bathroom white and I painted it sky blue.
We slapped in a new toilet and a sink from Ikea.  Good enough.
It was fine.  It wasn't ugly and it worked for us.

But it was time to freshen it up a bit and make it a little more interesting.

I took leftover peacock teal paint from our front door and mixed it in a gallon of white paint.
Voila!  Wall color perfection.
The chevron mirror and vintage acid bottle are from my Mom's shop,
The shelf, glass containers, hanging baskets, and frames are from Ikea.
The gray stripped shower curtain and gray runner bath mat are from Home Goods.
The art is random stuff we had, and the awesome globe light is from Etsy.

Grand total for a quickie weekend bathroom makeover?
Approximately $250
And we love it so much more than before!

Vegetarian Dinners - Tostadas

Last week Eric and I soaked up some sun and enjoyed dinner outside.

I am all about quick dinners and at least a few days a week we eat vegetarian.

One of my favorite go-to quick vegetarian dinners is Mexican Tostadas.
There is practically no cooking involved and they are super delicious!

I lay out tostadas on a cookie sheet and heat them in the oven at 350 for 7-ish minutes.
At the same time, I heat the can of refried beans on the stove.

In the 7 minutes it takes to 'cook' dinner, I toss all of the toppings* on the table, crack open a Corona and slice up a lime.

From there it's a 'build-your-own' dinner.
One of our favorites :)

*some of our favorite toppings include:
salsa (fresh or from the jar)
cilantro
sour cream
avocado
red onion
cheese
and lots of hot sauce

Happy Easter Weekend

Happy Easter Weekend!
We'll be with lots of friends and family this weekend as we make the rounds.

Also, if you're looking for corn, it's at my house.
I literally am making corn pudding for 75 people.

Give Me The Rainbow

It's almost Recital Season around here!

For my youngest ballet class, we're dancing to Give Me The Rainbow by Jewel...

and they needed rainbows.

This was my inspiration picture found here

Materials:
12" pieces of ribbon
I used 2 of each color Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Pink and Purple

White felt

Cardboard stencil

Thin Sharpie

Glue gun

Cotton balls

Craft sticks

Votive candle

I traced my stencil onto the felt and cup out 24 clouds (I'm making 12 rainbows)

I glued my ribbon to the inside of the cloud for durability

I stuffed each cloud with a few cotton balls and a craft stick
and then hot glued the edges of the 2 clouds together.

I also melted the ends of my ribbon with the votive candle to prevent fraying.

Tada...  rainbow!

One down, 11 to go :)

Eric's Meatballs

Eric's New Year resolution was to cook dinner once a week.
For someone who has never cooked, that's mighty ambitious...
so far he's cooked about once a month (though he has baked a few times too!).

This past weekend he made the best meatballs this Italian has ever had.

He followed this meatball recipe pretty much to the letter.

For the sauce, he combined a jar of DelGrosso's Tomato Basil Sauce and a can of Furmano's Crushed Tomatoes with Roasted Garlic and Olive Oil (our favorite).

Serve with a big tossed salad and crusty Italian bread... yuuuuuuum.

Laundry Pods

Please file Tide Pods under:
"why-the-heck-did-it-take-so-long-for-this-product-to-appear-on-the-market,-it's-amazing!"

SO much better than the liquid detergent.
I am a happy laundry-doing camper.

Bathroom Makeover

In the craziness that was March, I decided to overhaul our bathroom.

I was inspired by this image (I can't remember where it came from!)

New paint (very similar to the  image), a few new touches here and there,
an awesome new mirror and this new light from Etsy.

Eric installed it for me this weekend.  Once I hang 2 new art pieces, it's a done deal.

I've always been one to truly relax when I have nothing on the agenda (cooome on July!) and on the flip side, if I'm already busy, I jam pack my schedule with events, projects and too many things to do.
Apparently I don't believe in moderation.

Mini Grilled Cheese and Tomato Soup

Great nibbles for a fun party.  Love this!
